FAILE
BROOKLYN // NEW YORK
Faile is an art collective formed by Patrick Miller and Patrick McNeil. Both artists met at school and studied graphic design. In 1999 they formed a group under which they began to wheatpaste their posters around major cities. Soon they met who would become a third member, the Japanese Aiko Nakagawa. In 2006, she would leave the group for a solo career under the name Lady Aiko. By this point they had created an image and began to expand their work to other continents by sticking their designs on the streets of cities in Europe and Asia. Inspired by guerilla artists like Obey, the group aims to create social criticism, generate artistic interest and awareness. They began working with the stencil, gradually combining it with painting, mixed media and collage techniques. Faile has truly taken collage to another level and when you see the original works you can see just how many printed layers and tiny details are superimposed on top of each other to later be torn.
